Weird mineral deposits and lava ash created this colourful 'alien' landscape.

The combination of mountains, snowfields, black ash, green moss and stones made for some stunning landscapes on this leg of the trek.

The painkiller stop near Alftavatn lake. My pack weighed 56 lbs and carrying it was difficult over this terrain.

I had just waded across the Blafjallakvisl River, and managed to grab my camera in time to take this shot.
